Want to give your vehicle more character? At MTG AUTO SPORT, we offer a specific Pop and Bang tune, also known as a Crackle Map or Backfire, which adds a controlled detonation effect on deceleration or gear changes.
Petrol or diesel, we adapt the settings to your engine for a controlled sound result, with no risk to the mechanicals.
What is Pop and Bang?
It is a modification of the engine map that produces detonations in the exhaust when you lift off the throttle. This sharp, sporty sound is sought after by many enthusiasts for its racing feel, and sometimes for the visual effect of the flames.

Which engines is it suitable for?
- Naturally aspirated or turbocharged petrol engines
- Recent turbocharged diesel engines
- Vehicles with or without a modified exhaust system
The effect varies depending on the engine type, the exhaust configuration and the level of tune (Stage 1, 2, etc.).
What you get
- A customised Pop and Bang map
- A sporty sound effect, tailored to your use
- Safe work, with no damage to the engine
- Activation or deactivation on demand, if the vehicle has a Sport mode
Good to know before you get started
- A modified or de-catted exhaust system may be required for an optimal sound effect.
- Removal of the DPF and catalytic converter is mandatory (see our DPF, EGR and AdBlue solutions).
- The service is not compatible with all vehicles: a diagnostic is carried out beforehand.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Pop and Bang cost?
The price depends on the vehicle, the type of ECU and the level of tune required. The map is created to measure after diagnostics. Request a personalised quote.
Is Pop and Bang possible on a diesel?
Yes, on the majority of recent turbodiesel engines (HDi, TDI, CDTi…). The effect is different from that of a petrol engine – duller and deeper – but just as spectacular. The settings are adapted to your engine.
Does Pop and Bang damage the engine?
Properly programmed by a professional, no: the settings stay within the vehicle's mechanical limits. However, a generic map applied without proper expertise can damage the injectors, valves or turbo. That is why we always carry out a full diagnostic before any work.
Can you do it yourself?
Generic files are circulating online, but applying them without knowing the ECU and the engine is risky: permanent misfires, catalytic converter overheating or exhaust damage. Entrust this work to a professional equipped with dedicated remapping software.
